Friday Meeting with the Doctor

After reducing my beer intake and adjusting my diner hours I can say that my blood sugar has come down to 116. It was teetering around 150 for ever but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have also increased my level of exercise which may also have a lot to do with it.

Friday was my visit with the doctor and I believe all went well. I am still waiting for the test results but my doctor believes that I am finally on track. There were a few questions asked after I explained to her that I was eating a Whole Food Plant Based Diet. The one of course was where do you get your protein? I told her that I get much of my protein from beans, but also all of the other vegetables that I am eating contain a great deal of protein. I try to shoot for 70 grams per day, but many times go over that amount. She gave me a strange look, but I told her to look it up.

When I told her that I don’t do added oil, she asked me where I get my “good fat” from. I told her that there is no good fat and all the fat that I need to survive and thrive I get in fruits and vegetables.

I will get the results of the blood test sometime this week and will post them along with the comparison of the last one before I started the diet.

Another comment she made was meats are not bad. I told her that last year I was eating the “Whole 30” diet and suffered greatly from Intestinal bathroom issues where I was running to the bathroom several times per day with bad diarrhea. I told her that I was very confident in what I was doing and would notice any changes in my body that would dictate a problem. I will be seeing her in another 6 months for a follow up. She told me that she was amazed at they way I approach my own health and looks forward to seeing me in 6 months. Maybe I will bring her a copy of “How Not To Die”.

    Great to hear. When I had my annual dr. visit last spring with blood work, the nurse was so surprised to see that at my age (53)-that I wasn’t on any meds for the typical chronic diseases…and when the dr. came in the room, she said–what are you doing, you’re a cardiologist’s dream patient!! It’s all in the plants, baby!!!

  3. I am back eating this way, too. I feel so much better. I do eat some animal products. Having trouble cutting out butter. I love it soooooo!

  4. I am almost all plant based and maybe salmon or anchovies once every couple months. Dr’s. get about 5 hrs total nutritional training [all media inspired], in their years of education.

    • It’s not “Healthcare”, it’s “Sick Care”. The more I read about all of the ailments of sickness and how they lead to other ailments and then the medications to treat one ailment leading to other ailments just makes me angry.

    Im so glad your doing better health wise. Im also on that journey of better health. Today you have to be your on advocate for health. Signing up for free seminars. On subjects of health concerns. With my tablet and paper. I learn a lot. they want you to by there products but i never do. Just gleen from there knowledge as doctors.yes i have Dr Gregers book. How Not To Die he was on one of the seminars love your blogs…..

  6. There are good facts, avocado oil, coconut oil, ghee, almond butter. 😊 They are included in my keto diet and I have the bloodwork of a teenager!

    • From the many books and articles I read fats are best when not processed at all. I get mine straight from the vegetable. I am pretty much on a mission to rid my body of all excess fat as it clogs the receptors of the cells and reduces the intake of glucose from the blood stream thus causing Type II Diabetes. My blood sugar was out of control as my reading were pretty darn high. I am now experiencing normal readings. I suppose that all of our body’s are different and what is tolerable for one is not so tolerable for another. Last year when I was doing KETO I lost a lot of weight, built a lot of muscle and experienced excellent overall blood tests. The problem I was having was that all of the fat, especially from meat and dairy was causing irritable bowel syndrome and destroying my gut biome. Much of the fat was also building up on my endothelial lining and increasing my chances of a heart attack and stroke. So far I can say that by eating WFPB I am thinking clearer and unlimited energy. I feel lighter and stronger. My experiment will go on and we will see where it takes me.
