Just a quick update folks. I am still sick and not working out. Yesterday I had to go into work an hour early so it got in the way of my time to blog. I have this same schedule next week and am not too happy about it. By the end of the workday yesterday I felt like total shit and was pretty much worthless when I got home. I come to find out that a couple of our police officers I work with have recently gone through the same thing and I was told I could feel like crap for up to two weeks. I will continue on a path of saving needed energy to keep my immune system strong by shying away from working out until I feel fully recovered.
I don’t feel to well today and I am debating whether to take the day off of work today or just go into work and try to push through another day. The weekend starts tomorrow and I will have plenty of time to rest.
As I don’t normally get sick I sometimes wonder if I did this to myself by working out too hard. I really have been giving it that extra effort needed to build muscle but at 55 years old could I be overdoing it. As muscle is broken down through lifting weights the immune system kicks into high gear to provide necessary attention to the job of repairing the torn muscle tissue. With a schedule over the last several weeks of working different muscle groups for 5 days straight each week with just 2 days on the weekend to recover it certainly would be reason to believe that I did in fact weaken my immune system and leave it open to attack from foreign invaders.
I will have some time to research these thoughts and decide whether a change in my workout schedule is needed. I certainly don’t want to give up on the effort I have been putting forth as I am enjoying the progress I am making, but on the other hand I don’t want to break down my body to the point to where I get sick. It may be beneficial to rebuild my workout schedule to where I am doing more one day then spending the next day to recover. Day on, Day off. Hmmm. Such things to ponder…
