Diabesity Challenge Day #62 – The Day of Rest and Eating like a Drunken Sailor

rs_1024x759-160323123009-1024.beer-chips.cm.32316I suppose that beer and chips aren’t exactly the best way to keep sugar low. I can usually keep these things in check, but not last night. Despite the fact that I grilled an incredible steak in the back yard and paired it with freshly picked broccoli from the garden which was carefully steamed to perfection and allowed a half of a small baked potato into the mix which I added a dab of sour cream to it just wasn’t enough. I had to complete this fine dinner with a six pack of one of finest craft beer’s in Oregon and a half a bag of potato chips.

Why did this happen you ask? After burning over 300 calories on the treadmill I should of followed up with enough carbohydrates to create the energy needed to restore burned energy. Instead I followed my workout up with a protein shake at 6:00 AM. I didn’t eat again until lunch which was a whole wheat Sandwich Thin with Tuna and tomato with melted swiss cheese. Yes the old Tuna Melt Sandwich was consumed at around 11:00 AM. After dealing with aggravation from a two hour cleaning at the dentist, Don’t get me started… we did some aggravating food shopping where we experienced nothing but one stupid situation after the next. At around 3:00 PM I ate a plateful of left over Chinese Food.

So the bottom line is that I ate way too much after noon and not enough before noon. And the results… Wait for it… a blood sugar level of 136! The audience cheers as the host says, “I’m sorry but you didn’t quite reach your goal today, but we do have a consolation prize for you.” “Johnny tell him what he won”.

rBVaEFcRs1KAeqfhAAIWlaKNf2M603Today is absolutely a day of rest not only because I need it, but also because somehow I must have slept incorrectly on my manhood and woke up with a little pain in my right testicle. I know, It’s nuts! Take me out to the ball game… So today the Beast will be quietly at bay.

  1. You’re lucky! My blood sugar would have gone to 3001

  2. It’s not fair to you guys but I get into a state of panic if my blood sugar levels are over 20. Of course, I’m more prone to hypos. Yesterday, while walking to the local farmers’ market, the telltale signs began: sweating, squinting, losing balance and equilibrium, so I detoured to my local greengrocer who sat me down with a glass of water and two juicy nectarines. I don’t live with a list, I don’t count anything, except my change and my doc says I’m the most ‘controlled’ diabetic he’s ever known. Why? I don’t know. I have 3 rules, low fat, no sugar, plenty of high fibre roughage. I buy freshly churned butter and raw milk and I drink beer. Right now, I’m barbecuing three herrings, got some potatoes boiling and I’ll eat them with fresh strong beans. I check my blood four times a day and take insulin three times. I weigh 74 kgs, heavy by my standards. So, good luck to y’all . I’m 60 and I don’t intend to die with a frown.

Ouch….well we all have days that we keep making the same mistakes over and over then we pay for it the next day. Just pick up where you left off and keep doing what you know you should. But it doesn’t hurt to have a lapse in judgement once in awhile. 😊
