Yesterday was the perfect Saturday where my diet was spot on most of the day, I did a little yard work and got some good sunshine. I even managed to take a 45 minute power nap during the day. Yes, everything was great until “Beer Thirty” came along. Beer thirty is that time of the day that I deem to be the time I can start drinking beer. I love beer.
They seemed to go down way to smooth last night. I drank 9 bottles of beer before this I realized that I was drunk. So how much alcohol should a Type II Diabetic drink?
Oregon is the Capital of micro breweries and craft brews and I live right in the heart of it all and have learned to love it. Each of those bottles I sucked down last night contain 170 calories and what I am trying to accomplish with my health goals it really doesn’t make much sense to drink this stuff. I drank 1590 calories while earlier in the day feeling so proud of the 300 calories I burned on the treadmill. Doesn’t make too much sense does it? And there are those carbs that end up being converted to fat and the alcohol that quickly turns to sugar and sits in my blood stream. WTF! Drinking beer makes no sense at all.
I am going to have to put my foot down and apply the same discipline to beer drinking as I did with other bad habits. This is where the evening treadmill will come in handy. The best way to get rid of a bad habit is by replacing it with a good one. I don’t want to give up drinking altogether but I can allocate specific nights for drinking a few brews. So my plan is simple. No beer drinking on nights where I have to work the next day. Upon return from work each night instead of cracking open a beer I will get my ass on that treadmill and walk off all of the frustrations of the day. Who knows, maybe I can finally get rid of this beer belly thing that I have going on.
