Diabesity Challenge Day #52 – Working out like a Conductor leading an Orchestra

RAMALLAH, -: Argentine-Israeli Daniel Barenboim conducts the Jewish and Arab musicians of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, jointly founded by late US-Palestinian intellectual Edward Said and Barenboim, during a solidarity concert in the West Bank city of Ramallah, 21 August 2005. Members of the orchestra, based in Spain and comprising around 100 musicians from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon Egypt and Israel, are travelling on diplomatic passports issued by Madrid to limit holdups at Israeli checkpoints. The Ramallah concert is the climax of a tour that has taken the orchestra to cities including Buenos Aires and London. AFP PHOTO/ABBAS MOMANI (Photo credit should read ABBAS MOMANI/AFP/Getty Images)

This creatine loading phase is really starting to become a pain in the ass. Last night I fell asleep and forgot to take the last 5 grams before bed. This means that I have to extend the loading phase an additional day.

Yesterday was a very good day on the diet front. Fruit, oatmeal and protein in the morning after workout, Chicken Kababs with roasted vegetables and rice and a protein shake and a handful of cherries for lunch, Ribs and potato salad for dinner. Not perfect, but getting there.

With all of my other strength training routine I am putting in 100% explosive effort, but today I am working shoulders and know that shoulder exercises have to always be performed very carefully. It is so easy to injure the shoulder with going overboard, so I push each rep with precision and as I approach the last I stay very mindful on those muscles that I am working and take it up slowly and just as I feel any type of pain coming on I simply sustain the position I am in rather than trying to push it further.

By strengthening the muscles around the shoulders I am also increasing my capacity to go heavier in both my BACK routine and CHEST routines. It also creates better muscle definition in these same area’s. I used to hate SHOULDER day as I didn’t quite understand the importance of working these muscles, had bad form and always ended up in a lot of pain.

I am a conductor playing each section of my body in perfect precision to keep balance with the rest of my orchestra. This is what I feel like as I am going through my routine today. It is a very interesting feeling as my thought give way to the visions of a well practiced Boston Symphony Orchestra. Maybe this is a good way to work out with the sounds of classic music playing in the background. Why not?
