Here we are at day #48 of this 365 day mission to challenge this thing we call diabesity. Thus, after a start that included cardio and light strength training has turned around to where I am doing heavy lifting and little cardio. Basically I have come to a point where I am body building. As I continue to make changes I have decided to include cardio three times per week after work and will start this practice tomorrow. The body building part of this routine has become fun as I can actually see the progress that I am making in muscle growth. The more I drive glucose out of the cells the more glucose is needed to replenish those same cells that have become depleted. The harder I work the better this process becomes. But then there is the other side…
Diet. Although I know exactly the foods I should be eating each day and when I should be eating them I find it difficult to stay on track. Yesterday was a rest day and should have consisted of very little food other than those that are nutrient dense. Again I ate my favorite BLT sandwich for lunch the followed it up a few hours later with liverwurst on a roll. Dinner was the only sensible meal as I ate a lobster tail with spinach. It is so easy to look back and know that I could have eaten the fresh lettuce (that I picked out of the garden) with some tomatoes and a few slices of bacon on the side and leave the bread out of the picture. The same goes for that roll I ate later on. It is obvious to me that my body is craving carbs but by eating carbs that rapidly break down like those in flour products I am just starting that roller coaster effect where soon after eating them my sugar goes low and I am once again searching for something to fill the void. Eventually I will learn to be more mindful about my eating habits and learn to simply tell myself “NO”.
I worked outside in the yard most of the morning and put together a small shed to keep my garden tools in. I cut the lawn and tended to the plants and took in some needed sunshine. I took a few photos and got creative with them on the Mac using Adobe Elements. Photography is one of my favorite hobbies yet it seems I never have the time to really spend doing it.
