I almost had a perfect day of food yesterday. I started breakfast at 8:00 AM with a can of tuna, lunch at noon with a big ass salad and sardines and dinner was a small bowl of beef stew with no potato’s. This eating schedule followed one of the most kick ass workouts I have had thus so far this year. So what went wrong? After dinner I was totally craving carbohydrates and ended up eat a shit load of cheese and crackers. So where I should have been looking at blood sugar numbers below 100 and am now staring at a 129 on my glucose meter. I will no beat myself up over this, but I will learn from it. I will remember tonight to fight off those cravings and stay true to my diet.
Looking back on the way I felt all day, besides the cheese and crackers incident, I felt pretty darn good. My energy levels were high besides working out like an animal in the morning. Between the protein from the tuna and sardines to supply my muscles with the protein they need to grow and the raw vegetables in the salad to fill me important nutrients and fiber I believe it was a perfect combination. The beef stew had no flour added and was just bone broth with small pieces of beef, carrots and onions cooked in a crock pot slowly over several hours.
Something snapped inside me yesterday while working out and it seemed that each exercise I did I wanted to push to the limit. As I did I experienced a certain sense of pleasure and all I wanted was more. I am reaching a point where I am experiencing progress through my body’s desire to work and work hard. It is no longer my mind that is pushing my body through these routines, but my body that is guiding my mind through them. With each set of weight bearing exercise I do my body want to take each one to a point where I can totally feel the muscle burn and although I cut my cardio off at around 30 minutes my body is ready to take on an additional 30 minutes.
Yesterday I posted that I wanted to commit to 2 miles or 30 minutes which ever comes first on the treadmill. I am changing my position on this as I pushed out 2 miles at the 27:56 mark yesterday and spend an additional 7 minutes slowly taking the speed down. So actually I will be taking it to the highest level I can reach to knock out the 2 miles and spend the additional time slowing down my heart rate at a comfortable level.
I want to leave this post with a positive thought. Life isn’t so much about what the world has to offer, rather it is about what you have to offer the world. Billy Brennan
