Can you believe that is March 25th already? It’s a reminder that time marches forward and yet there are still so many things to get done. Each month I review this task at hand of paying down this mortgage and although I am making great progress it seems like such a distant day away from claiming victory over it.
It probably felt the same way when I initially took on other challenges in my life thinking that they would never reach a finality, but long behold I reached each goal and seemed to have forgotten about the longevity of each.
Quitting smoking was no easy task, but this Easter will mark two whole years without a cigarette. I don’t even remember what it was like to smoke cigarettes as it seems like such a distant time in my past.
I believe that all long term challenges are like this and I find it so much easier to concentrate on breaking each one down into smaller goals. As for the mortgage I have monthly goals to save enough money each month to simply add to the mortgage payment. It may be a great distance in the future before I reach this goal, but then when I think about what I have accomplished in just 5 years I realize that I will be looking back at this challenge in the same regards.
Time doesn’t stand still for anyone and it will continue to march on at the same pace as the metronome in the sky. But breaking it down into pocket sized pieces can provide a sense of some type of control. We need to capture from it what we can in the moments that occur on a daily basis or lose those moments forever. In just one day in our lives we record a movie of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. We also have a narrator that comes along with this movie sharing thoughts on all of these senses and unlike most movies we can interact with this one. While this movie is playing before us it lends us the opportunity to take away from it those things we need to hold on to and capture in our own little file cabinets to revisit one day to share and remind us of the movie we are a part of. What is really cool is that we have the power to change theatre’s when ever we wish to be a part of a different film.
We close our eye’s and our imaginations take over to pull pieces of the many movies we were once a part of to lend to the imagination theatre. We create movies of the past and the future and build the tools necessary to make it to the next showing. We make major decisions based on our reviews of those movies in a collaborate effort to move forward and discover what it is we feel we need in our lives.
As a major actor I can also be the producer that has the ability to play whatever part or roll in this movie. Throughout life I have been a part of both love scenes and horror scripts. I have played many rolls and find that I still have control over these parts I play. It can be a negative tragedy or a positive, uplifting tale with an incredible ending. I may not have the power over the scenery at time, but I do have the power over the ending of each scene.
Wow, before long I will be saying, “Can you believe that it is April 25th already”. A month shall pass and I will be yet another step closer to reaching a goal and will take away with it all I have learned and experienced in being an actor in this movie of life over the past 30 days.
