A Hot Shower

men-under-showerThis morning I found great gratitude in the what we consider the simplest of task, that of taking a hot shower. This is one of the things that we seem to take for granted, but when you really think about it there is much behind it.

It wasn’t too long ago in our history where taking a hot shower was something of a mystery. People had to heat hot water on the kettle to add to a bath tub to find the right balance of temperature that is suitable for bathing one’s self. By simply turning on the shower and regulating the cold and hot water with a handle would be a miracle to those folks back then.

Yes, this morning I am grateful that I live in a period in our history where I can step into a hot shower and clean my body in a matter of just a few minutes.

One of my all-time favorite things. Read some new sci-fi a couple weeks ago (called The Bone Clocks) and was struck by the super realistic interpretation of the future where some climate change fueled disasters had occurred and society across the world had broken down. The main character thought to herself one evening that she wondered if she’d ever get used to wanting (and not having) a hot shower in the evenings. I am grateful every time…thanks for the reminder!

With a toddler at home, a hot shower is a luxury. After one I feel as if I can take on the world, as I watch the stress of the day go unceremoniously down the drain.

  6. Even just having clean water to take a shower is more than a lot of people in the world have so a hot shower is definitely a luxury! Enjoy it as much as possible!

My doctor actually prescribed a daily soak in a hot tub today. Even with a shower, though, there are therapeutic benefits that go way beyond clean. I think a good bath will be one of the things I would least like to give up in this life.
