Going Through the Awakening, Wing or Sprinter?

spring_awakening_finalI woke up this morning with a feeling like I didn’t want to work out. So before I even had a chance to start coming up with excuses I jumped right into my first exercise. Just getting through it created enough excitement to influence me to push through.

There will be times where my body will let me know that I need to take a break and I will listen to it, but during this initial breaking period of re-developing a daily routine there are no excuses. I am lifting light weights with minimum sets and walking just one mile. There is nothing difficult about it. I have to get through a full 30 day cycle to wake up those lazy muscles that have been sitting idle all winter.

It is a wake up period of the year as my body is pushed to arise from a long sleeping period and although it will fight to return to winter sleep, I will keep nudging it to get up.

I am doing much better with my daily diet as I have cut out snacking between meals. The one good thing about having a busy job is their is little time to think about snacking. My biggest problem is the first hour at work where I am pretty much sitting idle at my desk finishing up paperwork from the day prior and waiting for the daily morning meeting. After that I am out in the field and moving pretty quickly from job to job. I have found that by simply having a cup of hot tea seems to take my mind away from the donuts sitting in the lunch room.

This wake up period happens each year usually around a month before the official date of Spring and each year I find both my body and mind moving from a slumber to more activity. Maybe it should have it’s own seasonal name like Wing or Sprinter. What excites me the most is how I sit and dream of once again doing things that I love to do in the great outdoors.
