Turn, Turn, Turn

original“Turn! Turn! Turn!”

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late!

Great song to have stuck in your head! 🙂

Yes… an old Pete Seeger song… and a fabulous lyric; very Taoist – though perhaps unintentionally – with its ‘a time for every purpose’ sentiment. The inspiration is a biblical text, but I can’t give you chapter and verse. Definitely OT… maybe Genesis… but I’m guessing. Possibly ‘Proverbs’? Or ‘Psalms’?

  3. Kim Smyth says:

Thats a good one for sure! Now I will have it stuck in my head too, lol. Thats ok though, there are worse things, like annoying commercial jingles! That is one of those things that keep you up at night! :\

  4. New Journey says:

And a good song at that….kat

  5. Jenn Prime says:

Thank you for the reminder, it came just when I needed it.

Thanks SO much — Love the song, but NEEDED it more. No coincidences. Happy that I came to “visit” today.
