Mid Winter Baby Steps

babysteps-300x300After getting on the treadmill yesterday I am inspired this morning to do it again, yet I am holding myself back and will wait for another day to pass. My feet are a little sore and I know how important it is to take those “baby steps” necessary for building up to a natural routine.

Today is dedicated to just thinking and starting to practice my return to a healthy diet. Once again I will take a good look at what I am eating which includes the calorie count and amount of carbohydrates. I will also remember that it is still winter putting certain restrictions on much needed carbohydrates could make my body believe that it needs to switch into starvation mode. In the spring this is perfectly acceptable as the body will switch over to fat burning, but during the winter it could lead to sickness.

So rather than change the types of foods I am eating I will continue the same diet with a simple reduction of maybe 100 calories and continue to make these small changes until I reach my spring diet and exercise routine.

With the simple 20 minute walk I took yesterday I have already noticed a better change in my mood and morning bathroom routine. For these reasons alone it is easy to think that more is better, but I must not be fooled. I have been there and done that and it doesn’t work for me.

I tend to crave protein in the winter… definitely not good for me as it raises my blood sugar just as much as carbs. Sounds like you are right on track! Best of luck 🙂
