Don’t try to race the Cycles of Nature

5a6b8bfabd9790af5db9190b562e4ff8With New Years Day coming up in just hours I am sure that most of us are thinking the same thoughts about getting back on the horse and start to shed some winter weight. We will start making better choices with food and begin an exercise regimen to lose those pounds.

I have a word of warning for all. It is something that I have personally discovered and believe that it should help other’s in their path back to summertime jeans. Start slowly. Yes, I know that it is so easy that once we get started it gets exciting, but I have learned that while we are still at the beginning of winter our bodies are in the same natural cycle they are in each year at this time. Our bodies retain fat for survival reasons.

Personally I have found that pushing to hard in January only brings about sickness in February. My recommendation is simple. Walking, not running and light exercises like a few squats and pushups to get started. You really don’t want to drop weight right now, but slowly build up to a point where as we approach spring we are ready for a regular exercise program.

If you are hungry, then eat healthy fats and healthy carbs. That extra layer of body fat is there for a reason and starving yourself and working too hard can throw things off to the point that your immune system will break down and you will become susceptible to the inability to fight off foreign invaders.

Take your time, Spring will arrive as is does each year and you will naturally have more energy and less desire to eat the same foods you eat over the winter. We will all come out of our caves and enjoy the great outdoors. It’s OK. Relax and understand the rhythms of the seasons.

For me it will be a simple 20 minute brisk walk each morning. A seed will not grow into a beautiful plant full of brilliant flowers in just a day. It will grow at as the cycles of nature are programed to allow it to grow and we are a part of these cycles.

Although I don’t always have time to comment, I have always appreciated your caring, insightful, down to earth advice. You are truly a gem! Thank you for all your words of wisdom this year.     Thaks for sharing simplelivingover50. Two years ago I did exactly what you are telling us not to do and since then my immune system got so weak and I cannot get back to how it was. PS Happy New Year to you and your Family!

    Hello my friend….great advice….and I will take it….I plan on the 2nd to get back to my eating plan I lost over the Thanksgiving holiday and get back at it….can never hurt to eat healthier….and as far as exercise…well packing, pushing, moving, has been great work outs so far, so I will continue all that goes with moving into a home, and hit my new gym and pool in February…and my body will demand I go slow…LOL but its always good read and reinforce the correct way to get back at it…and as always your right on with your suggestions….you and Sharon have a great New Years Eve…I will raise my champagne and toast you at midnight….if I am still awake…LOL kat
