When it comes to personal finance one of my fiercest enemies is debt. I don’t like to owe anyone anything if I can help it and when I can’t help it I work like a mule to get it paid off. For me debt is a form of enslavement. It not only robs us of our wealth but can take away the very spirit inside us that is a natural response to drive forward.
I have just one credit card that I use and don’t make any purchase that I know I cannot completely pay for when the credit card bill comes at the end of the month. If I can’t afford it then I don’t purchase it. When purchasing an automobile I put down as much money as possible then each month when I make that payment add as much as possible to get that vehicle paid off.
To me paying interest is like taking a handful of cash and burning it. The same thing goes for the mortgage. Whatever I have left at the end of the month through living a frugal lifestyle goes to paying off that mortgage. I celebrate when I see the reduction in my principal balance each month on this loan.
This is my belief that we are all fiscally responsible for the destination of our own lives and the direction it takes. Their is no such thing a a “bail out” when it comes to personal finance and I am responsible to my family to provide a stable environment to live in and debt is not a welcome friend in my home.
Now I have no extended formal education, nor am I a wizard when it comes to finances. My hard core beliefs come from simple common sense. If you work hard to earn money to make a living then why would you want to give it away senselessly to a lending institution that thrives on peoples desires to go shopping. I have learned these lessons early in life where those items that I wanted so badly ended up in a pile set out for a yard sale a year later.
So I can understand that each of us has our own lessons to learn in life and hopefully most will eventually learn about the depressing elements of being in debt. What I can’t understand is how we elected well educated men and women to political positions of power in America who have continually made these decisions to drive our country deeper and deeper into debt. WTF?
As of a week ago the latest figures showed that each American Citizen is responsible for a little more than $56,000.00 towards paying off the National Debt. Are you freaking kidding me? I am not too trusting in any political party or individual who claims to represent the best for America especially when I see the same crap year after year. Maybe it’s high time we see them all Trumped and maybe, just maybe start restoring this nation to what our forefathers intended it to be.
