I am looking forward to a very rainy weekend as we have plans today to drive to the Oregon Coast. It’s just a day to get away and experience the storms coming in on the shores of the West Coast. Maybe a little shopping for clothing we desperately need and maybe even a little gambling at the Native American Casino. We will find a fine restaurant for a romantic dinner and drinks and head back to the hotel to sit on the balcony and listen to the surf.
Living a minimalist lifestyle we should never avoid the opportunities to experience the world around us. By reducing our expenses we leave room and money available to be able to afford the simple joys in life. This is where too many people get caught up in the money aspect of simple living. It is possible to stay on a path of savings and debt reduction to where it becomes the path itself without paying much attention to the signs along the way that provide us with reasons for being minimalist. It’s all about living a more simple life, not becoming wealthy. Wealth in itself is not bad, however when we lose sight of the reasons for working so hard to reach it we never get to enjoy it.
I believe that it is more important to enjoy your life while on the path. Of course this doesn’t mean that we book a vacation that we can’t afford, but there are so many small opportunities to experience the world in our own back yards that we miss if we are not careful. How many times have we set out on an expensive vacation only to find stress? What do you have in your own back yard that you have experienced or desire to experience? Plan it and set out to do it. Life is short and no one ever wants to look back and say I should of.
