Resistance Exercises do increase Inflammation

inflammationSo after a morning of light weight lifting yesterday I am noticing that both my blood sugar and body weight has increased. This I am learning seems to be a normal state of affairs and I will wait once again until my numbers start going down. So I am keying in on the fact that any type of resistance exercise can sent my numbers up, but overall it is healthy and I simply have to limit my exposure to it to maybe to just once a week. Although I only lifted two thirds of what I normally lift it was still enough to cause inflammation and set my body in a different state. This all leaves me with the question if I were to simply walk each day and keep resistance at a minimum will it be enough to keep my bone health thriving as resistance exercise is the key to good bone health? And yes, the experiment continues…

I am starting to figure out that while muscle mass can certainly be attractive it seems to me to be not a natural state of being at age 54. While moderate weight bearing exercise is healthy, being in a state of inflammation can be dangerous and actually cause more problems that make things better. While I was avoiding resistance exercises for almost 2 weeks I watch my blood sugar decrease and go back to a normal state, but as soon as I reintroduces resistance exercise I so those numbers increase. So what is the natural state of man? I believe that it would include a great deal of walking and occasionally a little bit of hard work followed by plenty of rest. With a balanced diet and practicing intermittent fasting a few days a week I believe that it may be the key to being all that I can be, not by heavy weight lifting. We shall see.

Today will mark day#4 of trying to get my PC reloaded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I am still locked up in trying to install all of the updates for Windows 8 to get it up to 8.1 so I can finally download Windows 10. It’s like the never ending problem. I started out with 191 updates and I am now down to just 44, but still overtime I restart the computer I get the message “Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes Do not turn off your computer”. Then I have to wait about 30 minutes for this process to take place. The good thing is that each time I seem to load at least 1 more update.

  1. Weird how your numbers go up when you introduce resistance training. Am I right in thinking that they go down with Cardio? What about H.I. cardio where your heart rate is just a few off of maximum? How does that affect the numbers? Maybe if it is better for you, that might be the way to go and the resistance training needs cutting out altogether?
    P.S, glad you are still persevering with the Mac, it’s obvious the P.C has spat its dummy out and doesn’t want to play anymore. Typical!! 😉

    • I will be working with a simple 30 minute walk each day and see where it takes me. My ego loves lifting weights but if it is causing me to suffer then I may have to consider simple calisthenics. I am still updating the pic…. Ahhh

    Your are doing great in finding the balance for you. The whole reason it seems you numbers go up is because of the inflammation that happens after your resistance training. Inflammation can be damaging hence the higher numbers.

    I had the same issue with my computer and found that there was one file that everyone was having trouble loading and even saw a few articles that mentioned that that file was crashing some computers. I went in and loaded the updates one at a time until I found the one that wouldn’t load then I checked all of them with the exception of that one and presto they loaded. I never did load that one and actually hid it and have been running strong in windows 10 since it came out.
    About the weight lifting. I know that stress is a common thing that can make your numbers go up. Something about the stress hormone if memory serves me and your body does retain water naturally after you lift weights. When you lift you tare your muscle then your muscle heals. That process makes you have bigger muscles. Tarring your muscle lifting weights is the same as an injury as far as your body is concerned so it does what it does anytime you injure your muscle, it surrounds it with fluid to help it heal. That is why your weight goes up and down with the work outs. I see this cycle even with cycling which is why I have to have at least a day in between riding. Of course the older I get the more I see its effects. Keep working at it. I am sure that you will get it down.

    Funny. With Windows you can have exactly the same installation on two different computers and they will act completely different. Good luck. If I think of anything that might help I’ll holler.

    This is very interesting because must studies say the exact opposite and when I was a personal trainer I had many diabetic clients who either had to get lower doses of their medication or come off of it all together because of resistance exercise. Good for you though for actually taking your condition seriously I wish my Dad would be more like you. Keep up the good work.

  8. I suffer from an auto-immune disease and understand the struggle with inflammation. I’d be interested in finding out if walking changes things for you. Wishing you wellness!

    • I have no problems walking as long as I am doing it comfortably and no in a competitive manner.

      • Do you have inflammation when you walk?

      • It only happens when I overdo it, but I have more problems with inflammation when I lift weights. As a type 2 diabetic I need to to both but it has to be done moderately. At age 54 I shouldn’t be doing to much to competitively. To explain this a little more I can hike for 10 miles and I have no problems with inflammation, but if I fast walk more than 30 minutes on the treadmill it causes problems.

      • Is your water intake different? I know for me I can go shopping for hours 😉 and come home and struggle with inflammation in my hands and feet. For the most part I’ve been able to keep my inflammation at bay. The times I notice it now is when I haven’t drank my normal amount of water in a day.

      • I have been pretty mindful with water intake especially when I am working out. I thought that if working out was good then more must be better. I have reached a stage where I can bench press more than double my body weight. It was during these extreme workouts that I had problems with inflammation the worst. At 25 years old it never affected me like it does now at 54.
