Consistency is the Key to Success

c49a0347860be2a72a2bde4ec1a604beWith a day of rest yesterday my blood sugar is up just slightly this morning but not enough to set off any alarms. I feel well rested and am ready to return to my workout routine this morning. I am learning that my success is measured more in consistency than it is in daily effort. It has been difficult for me to think that doing just 20 minutes of cardio and a single set on my resistance routine is doing anything positive, but the truth is that it is making all the difference in the world. I am such a competitor and when I finish that first set the only thing I am thinking about is getting in that second set. And while doing multiple sets which each one to exhaustion is an effective way to gain muscle mass, it is not so effective at keeping blood glucose levels at a normal balance. The same goes with the treadmill as I am slowing my pace down at just 20 minutes and going into cool down mode. I feel I have so much more in me, but I know that the continued effort will create problems internally and also cause my blood glucose levels to rise. Going that extra mile will also increase my appetite for Carbohydrates and Protein and I must keep both at balanced levels.

mzi.lghaqxoq.175x175-75It appears that today will be my last day during the week where I am not working as I expect my license to arrive in the mail this afternoon. With that thought I have been pondering about how to spend this day. The weather once again is expected to be perfect and I have the opportunity to do something enjoyable in nature. I could find a bike trail and do some mountain biking, or just go for a hike. I do have a little prep work to do for my return to work, but that shouldn’t take too long. It is a glorious day and I will use this time to find something wonderful in the wonderful world I live in. Stay tuned…..

Leg Lifts – 14

Meals
Breakfast – 2 Eggs, 2 Bacon
Lunch – Burger, Salad
Dinner – Chicken, Peppers & Onions Kabobs

    I found this post so inspiring! Honestly, it takes everything I have to get 20 solid minutes of cardio in, and you’re doing it in your 50s with health problems. Thanks for the inspiration. I hope you have a good week!

    • When I first started I was barely able to do 5 minutes without getting completely exhausted, but through forcing myself to continue to walk changes came soon. At one point I was up to doing an hour each day until I realized that I was overdoing it. You can do anything that you believe you can do. Simply believe in yourself and be consistent. We all have our good days and bad days. Don’t let the bad days stop you from getting stronger. You are Awesome!

    What a great concept: listening to what your body needs regarding exercise instead of doing what your brain is insisting you should be doing. Remember, the brain creates mixed messages that may NOT be in your best interest; listening to your body and feeling the effects is ALWAYS the right choice (at that time.) Don’t get frustrated. You will learn to “feel” what works best for you regarding exercise. In our 50’s, the competition winner is not the marathon runner or the strongest athlete in the weightlifting competition, but rather the person who lives the best quality of life enjoying that which they choose to do for as many years as possible. This is the WINNER! Enjoy life, my friend, and all that it has to offer.
