Defenition of Insanity – Dumb Ass

donkey_puns_series__dumb_ass_by_matthewhunter-d4iahbpEach day I set up this daily meal plan in the morning to follow. It helps me be mindful when I do eat. I know that I am supposed to eat certain things and avoid others. This is a great way to set your day up and it works well, but only if you follow it.

So yesterday morning I gathered my gear to set out to do a half day of hiking. I thought about what I had in the fridge to bring with me for lunch and I realized that I would have nowhere to heat my food up. I could of just eaten it cold, but instead I opted to stop by Safeway and pick something up. I ended up walking out of Safeway with two breakfast burritos. Although they were loaded with lots of protein, they also consisted of grains in the tortilla shell. I read that just one tortilla shell is equal to 4 slices of regular bread. So, times 2 means that I ate 8 slices of bread. Insanity!

Then dinner time comes around and I decide to take that healthy chicken breast that I have, slice it thin, bread it and fry it. Ahhhh.

So here I am again crying like a freaking baby. My sugar is way up and my weight is over 170 because I have been converting carbs into body fat and I only have myself to blame. So you know the quote, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”, but I say the definition of insanity is – “Dumb Ass”.

The only good thing that comes out of this is the fact that I am taking my anger out on my bowflex. I am absolutely killing it today. “BEAST MODE”.

    I agree that a plan only works when you follow it. I can only imagine this is something like how Weight Watchers meals work. You only lose weight if you eat exactly the type of meal in the exact amount that’s on the plan for each and every meal.

    I don’t have to watch what I eat because I’m diabetic, but since I’ve started counting calories thanks to MyFitnessPal.com, I’ve become a lot more aware of what I eat and how much. So much so, that I’ve made a concentrated effort to reduce calories and to at least somewhat balance the types of calories I’m consuming.

    The result is that in the past 3 1/2 weeks, I’ve lost approximately four pounds. It’s not quite linear, but the graph at MyFitnessPal tracking my weight does show a slight but definite downward trend.

    I don’t know if weekdays are worse because where I work, they have all kinds of snack food lying around (I love beef jerky as well as bagels and cream cheese), or the weekends because I don’t have too much control over what foods my wife and daughter have prepared (if they’re cooking family meals on those days). The bottom line though is that I absolutely have to focus on consuming less than 2600 to 3000 calories (depending on if I exercised and how much of a workout I got in) per day in order to achieve the goal of losing a pound every couple of weeks.

    I eat a more or less paleo diet but it’s not always super strict. Since you’re diabetic, eating paleo, and pursuing a ketogenic diet, it would seem that you must have to keep a tight focus on each and every morsel that enters your mouth. I’m not sure I could do that myself since it’s such a chore for me just to count calories, but then again, if my life and well-being depended on it, I guess I’d have to. My wife is something of a “food nazi” and she’s continually reminding me of what normal portions are vs. how much I really want to eat at a given meal. If I were a diabetic, I know I could get away with exactly nothing that wasn’t on the plan. That’s what wives do.

    I admire your transparency here on your blog and I can only encourage you to start each day with the mission to eat and exercise as you desire so that you can live the life you want and need.

    • Yea, I take one day at a time. My wife is a “food Nazi” too. She is also a nurse practitioner so I get away with nothing. I am still out of work and probably will be for another week and being bored finds reasons for me to eat crap. I know I have to get back into a ketogenic state.

    I feel for you. I have done crazy workouts and then ate at Red Robin afterwards. The only comment I had for myself? “Idiot!” Have you tried apple cider vinegar? It helps with controlling blood sugar level.
