02-02-15 – Monday – Goodbye Football

Superbowl Sunday started out with a good balance of food but slowly turned into a feast of carbs. It was ugly folks, and now I know I will be spending the next two weeks recovering from it. My sugar and body weight are both way up and I feel like crap this morning. What is really sad is that I really didn’t enjoy the game much anyway. In fact I think this may be the last year I watch football.

I have been thinking about this for over a year now. When I was a young man I love to play football, but I also loved playing baseball, basketball and tennis. Watching sports on TV was a pass time that I really enjoyed. For some reason I just don’t get the same joy out of watching sports on TV. All week long I live a life of structure, built around a work schedule. I want to break that schedule on the weekends and not have to worry about getting home in time for the game. And what I am doing while watching the game? Sitting. The same thing I am doing for 40 hours during the week at work. No, weekends are made for activity, and it doesn’t matter if I am riding a bicycle, hiking a trail or just taking a walk. I am breaking the spell of watching sports on TV.

    I just stopped watching sports a few months ago and it was one of the most liberating things i have done so far in my life. As a matter of fact, i had a good 5 hour hike last sunday while everyone was at home watching the superbowl, had the trail all to myself. 😁
    Only downside is i get left out of some conversations at work, other than that I’m okay.

    • Yea, I have been thinking about this for over a year now. My problem is that I am so competitive that I get emotional over a game that I am not even playing. I would rather go out and play. Hiking is a great way to enjoy life. Good Luck.
