Well here we are at the last day of 2013. Due to a little pain in my lower back I have decided to not do cardio or abs today. My blood sugar is out of healthy range again today and once again I only have myself to blame. I did lunch at Panera Bread yesterday with a bowl of Turkey Chili Soup and a half a grilled cheese sandwich. What was I thinking? That maybe it wouldn’t effect my blood sugar? No, the problems was that I wasn’t thinking. This is a prime example of how to not be mindful. My reptilian brain took over and said, “Duh, I’m Hungry”. I am glad that I am writing this because just maybe I will think about it the next time the old reptile speaks to me.

As I am trying to master the paleo diet each day I have to always keep in the back of my mind the type II diabetes. With resistance exercise which is good for type II diabetes comes those hunger pangs for more protein. Too much protein will ultimately convert into sugars and enter the blood stream. I still haven’t taken on the fact that I should be eating much more vegetables and with the winter months and the lack of fresh vegetables my mind seems to be turned off to them. Although I do get a small share each day, I must take on the challenge of eating a nice healthy salad for lunch each day. I can certainly rap my brain around this as I practiced a vegan diet for two straight years not too long ago.

Through much of my reading I have learned that fat burning is 80% diet and just 20% exercise. I believe that I have the exercise part dialed in pretty good. It is the diet that I need to improve on. Next year is the year that I will fine tune my diet as to allowing my body to become a fat burning machine. I believe that the key to winning the war on type II diabetes is nested in this practice of burning fat each day. By simply limiting the foods that the body converts into sugars will get me to my goal. It is actually not as simple as it seems, but regardless I will reach my goal.

Simple living as it turns out is not as simple as I anticipated. It has given my the opportunity to spend more time concentrating on things like taking care of my health and living in Oregon has given me a sense of living closer with nature. The bottom line is that is hard work to live a simple life, but on the other hand all of the hard work I put into leads me to things like financial freedom and more control over those things that bring stress into our lives. I will continue on this journey and share my thoughts with the world and I am considering creating another wordpress site dedicated solely to my fight with type II diabetes. Because I have been so dedicated to this war that I fight I have neglected to write about the simple joys that I experience each day by living a simple life.

In each day that we live in this complex and complicated world we manage to find those things that bring simple joy to our lives. It is in these moments that life seems to be more meaningful as our hearts are touched in a special way. During the course of 2015 I hope that you all find these simple joys and hold on to them as they are far and few. Let this joy spread throughout humanity and allow it bring us all back to a simpler life.
